About Drammen Health Park

Drammen Health Park is a unique real estate project in the new health district at Brakerøya, strategically located just behind the new hospital in Drammen, which will open in the fall of 2025. This initiative promotes collaboration, innovation, and the exchange of knowledge  within the healthcare sector, fostering synergies that enhance outcomes for patients, healthcare providers, and the industry overall."

With the vision 'United for the World's Leading Public Health,' the Health Park creates a dynamic community of research, education, and businesses, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and innovation. Our mission is to serve as a cornerstone for collaboration and a driving force in shaping the future of healthcare in Norway.

An Arena for Collaboration and Innovation

Drammen Health Park will bring together companies of all sizes within the healthcare sector to exchange knowledge, collaborate on projects, and create innovative solutions. This will be a vibrant hub for collaboration, where a diverse group of stakeholders – from established enterprises to startups – can work together to develop new solutions. This collaborative environment will drive the advancement of more efficient and modern healthcare services for the future.

A Thriving Environment with Heavy Pedestrian Traffic

The new hospital in Drammen will serve around 500,000 patients annually and will employ over 4,000 staff members. Additionally, approximately 2,500 people will be affiliated with Drammen Health Park as employees and/or students.

This substantial workforce and patient flow will create a strong need for retail services. To meet this demand, the health park will feature a 440-meter-long ground-level promenade offering a wide variety of shops and services, including cafés, fitness centers, flower shops, bookstores, restaurants, and grocery stores. This diverse selection is designed to make daily life more convenient for patients, visitors, tenants, and residents of the health district

Sustainability at the Core – Ambition for BREEAM-NOR Excellent

Drammen Health Park is committed to sustainability, with a strong emphasis on circular economy principles and energy-efficient practices. The project strives to attain BREEAM-NOR Excellent certification, the top environmental standard for new buildings. This includes a focus on nine critical aspects: health and indoor environment, energy use, transportation, water management, materials, waste reduction, land use, ecology, and pollution control.

Some of the sustainable measures include:

Drammen District Heating
for energy-efficient cooling using seawater
Reused Materials
such as the rehabilitation of 30,000 bricks and windows from old industrial buildings on the site
Green Roof Areas
for rainwater management, flood prevention, and partial cultivation
Technological Optimization
of the building for environmentally friendly operations without compromising the indoor climate and comfort

The Names of the Buildings in Drammen Health Park – A Tribute to Brakerøya's Industrial History

The seven buildings at Drammen Health Park are named in honor of Brakerøya's rich industrial heritage, which spans over a century. Brakerøya's history is deeply connected to key industrial players like Osram and National Industri, whose contributions were pivotal in shaping both Drammen and Norway's industrial evolution.

Osram Factory
The Osram factory, established in 1916, was a cornerstone company in Drammen, and in the 1950s, the factory produced around 4 million light-bulbs annually. This was one of the most important industries at Brakerøya, laying the foundation for the area's industrial growth.

National Industri
The predecessor of National Industri, Drammen Elektriske Bureau, was founded in 1899 and moved to Brakerøya. In 1917, the company was renamed A/S National Industri, and it became a key player in the production of copper conductors, transformers, and high- and low-voltage equipment. National Industri was a key company in the development of Brakerøya and holds a significant place in Drammen’s industrial history.

The Building Names
To honor the legacy of the industrial businesses that shaped Brakerøya, the buildings in Drammen Health Park bear the names of these pioneering companies. Developed in consultation with retired Brakerøya employees, these names help preserve the region’s industrial history. The buildings are named:

These names are a testament to Brakerøya's industrial history and a reflection of the continuous growth and innovation that has occurred here. Drammen Health Park builds upon this heritage, opening a new chapter as a hub for future health-related advancements.
